Did you know that quarantine measures and social distancing have helped to avoid 62 million confirmed coronavirus infections in six countries worldwide? The University of California, Berkeley did that research.
The researchers studied the effect of the authorities’ actions in China, USA, South Korea, Italy, France and Iran. Different measures were taken into account: from a strict quarantine to travel bans, closures of cafes and distance requirements.
According to scientists, these measures have reduced the number of confirmed cases of infection in such a way: 37 million in China, 11.5 million in South Korea, 5 million in Iran, 4.8 million in the United States, 2.1 million in Italy and 1.4 million in France.
«If we are speaking about unrecorded occurrences, the number of avoided cases of illness will be 530 million, of which 285 million could be in China, 60 million in the U.S., 49 million in Italy», the note says.
