Netflix has almost completely suspended its production because of Covid-19 epidemic. The head of the company announced the creation of a fund that will financially support their employees who need it the most. The amount of aid is estimated at 100 million dollars.
Netflix chief content manager said that the biggest part of money from the fund will be sent to employees who have hourly payment but cannot work because of the coronavirus outbreak. Those are for example electricians and carpenters, drivers, hair and makeup artists and many others.
«All these people have supported us in our good times and we want to thank them now, we want to help them in difficult times especially now when the government figures out how they will provide economic assistance. That’s why we set up the fund to help creative staff in fighting against hardship», – he said.
In addition to the main purpose (to help Netflix employees) $15 million from this fund will go to some of the non-profit and charitable organizations such as Actors Fund Emergency Assistance, SAG-AFTRA Foundation Covid-19 Disaster Fund, AFC and Fondation des Artiste and Motion Picture and Television Fund. The company motivates this by their desire to help people in their industry who feel the negative effects of the coronavirus.
«Situation that happens now has no precedents. We are as strong because of people who work with us. It is a fortune we have an opportunity to help our employees who have suffered from the effects of the epidemic in these difficult times».
