Today we have a very important topic that will help you to understand the Covid-19 more closely. Moreover, we have good news to say!

The World Health Organization (WHO) is pleased with the results of the study in the United Kingdom – they show that dexamethasone can save the lives of patients with extremely severe currents of Covid-19. Preliminary information suggests that it has reduced the mortality rate of sufferers with Covid-19 who are on air-conditioning by one-third and the mortality rate of patients undergoing oxygen remedy by one-fifth.

Positive effects were observed only in the group of patients with an extremely severe course of the COVID-19 and not in the group of persons with a milder course of infection.

«This is the first medicine that is effective in reducing mortality throughout people with COVID-19 who require oxygen therapy or ventilation», said WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. «This is good news and I want to thank the Government of the United Kingdom, Oxford University, the country’s many hospitals and patients for their contribution to this breakthrough in saving lives».

Dexamethasone is a drug that has been used since the 1960s to treat inflammation in several diseased situations, including fiery diseases and some dangerous manners. Since 1977 it has been on the WHO Model List of Essential Medicines and it is accessible at an affordable price in most countries of the world.
