The Cyprus authorities promise to cover almost all expenses for tourists who were infected with SARS-CoV-2 on the island.

The Cyprus government has announced that it will pay for the accommodation, food and medication for tourists and their families if it turns out that they are infected with COVID-19. Tourists will only have to pay for tickets and ride from the airport.

There will be a special hospital in Cyprus with 100 beds for tourists who have been infected. In addition, sick people and their families will be able to stay in a special «quarantine» hotel with 500 rooms.

Thus, the authorities are trying to attract tourists to the island, as there is a small number of cases of COVID-19. According to the World Health Organization, 939 people confirmed coronavirus disease there, 17 people died of complications and 594 recovered. In addition, last year tourism has provided for 15% of the country’s GDP.

Since 9 June, tourists from Germany, Greece, Israel and Malta have already been allowed to visit Cyprus.
