Nurses and midwives play a significant role in the delivery of health services. They dedicate their lives to helping mothers and children, provide vital vaccinations and medical advice, care for the elderly and generally out the basic daily health needs of the population. They are often the first and only source of health care for the local population. It will require creating 9 million additional jobs in nursing and midwifery to achieve the worthy level of universal health level by 2030.
The World Health Assembly has decided to declare 2020 as the International Year of Nursing and Obstetric Workers.
Join WHO and its partners in this annual campaign, where we will celebrate the work of nurses and midwives, draw attention to the difficult conditions of their work, and call for increased funding for the development of nurse and midwife services.
